The GIFT Box has arrived!
In partnership with the United Nations, the first GIFT Box launched in London 2012 to raise awareness of human trafficking. We got to attend STOP THE TRAFFIK Brazil’s GIFT Box Launch in November in preparation for the World Cup and were so impressed that we knew we had to get one for Northern Ireland. The PSNI had already been considering the project and we got together to design and organise a GIFT Box for NI (paid for by assets seized from criminals.)
And now, it’s here! It’s been a long-time coming, a lot of hands on deck (some of which you see below) and something we have been 100% excited about because we believe that awareness leads to action, and action leads to change.
The box tells three stories of trafficking in NI which you can find here. The stories are in the 4 most commonly spoken languages amongst recovered victims of trafficking in NI last year – English, Romanian, Polish and Chinese.
We’ll bring it across Northern Ireland in the coming months to raise awareness and equip people to act. Watch out for it at the Titanic, Belsonic, Belfast MELA, shopping centres in NI & other community hubs and festivals/business events!
It was amazing to launch the box at Belfast City Hall last Friday with some of our key partners. Here are Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon, Justice Minister David Ford, NI Policing Board Chair Jonathan Craig, ACC Drew Harris and PCSP Chair Colin Keenan visiting the box.
Check out the Belfast Telegraph’s report on the project here.
If you get a chance to visit the box, please come and say hi! And if you’d like to book the box for an event or venue, please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
